The Works hit by cyber attack

Value book and craft retailer, The Works, has been forced to close some of its stores after a cyber attack.

The attack has delayed the resupply of stock and online order deliveries to customers, as reported by Retail Gazette.

The retailer, which has stores in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud, said the breach of its systems hasn't affected customer payment data.

Some stores were closed due to till issues and some deliveries were delayed, but The Works expects store deliveries to resume 'imminently' and said normal online service levels are being gradually restored.

The Works has hired forensic cybersecurity experts to investigate the attack to find out the full extent of the data which may have been affected. It has also informed the Information Commissioner's Office as a precaution.

Gloucester City Council was recently hit by a cyber attack and admitted it could take 'months' to fix.
