At last – the sweet smell of retail success
By Andrew Merrell | 8th May 2018
After weeks in which we have had story after story of retail strife it seems fitting that when we can write about the sweet smell of success it is about The Fragrance Shop.
With stores in Regent Arcade, Cheltenham, in Gloucester at Kings Walk and the Quays as well as Cirencester, the business provides a breath of fresh air from the stories of administration and poor sales.
Apparently, The Fragrance Shop enjoyed yet another good year with like-for-like sales up by six per cent to £121 million.
Total sales increased by 14 per cent with trade helped along nicely by launches from brands including Chanel, Emporio Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier and NPD.
Apparently, our dual weakness for big name celebrity brands and smelling beautiful shows no senses of waning.
Brands including Dior and Tom Ford also helped drive sales and Christmas sales were also strong.
The Fragrance Shop, which has its headquarters in Manchester, has 214 stores UK-wide and opened 33 new outlets in the last trading year.
Founded in 1995 it now employs almost 1400 people. Neither is it just a high street success. Online sales rose 27 per cent year-on-year.
