The Dragonboats are coming back!

Excitement is building with just days to go until one of Gloucester's biggest annual events, the Dragonboat Regatta.
Thirty teams will take to Gloucester Docks on Sunday 13th May to race and raise lots of money for charity.
Dragon Boat Racing originated in China 2,000 years ago. It involves up to 16 rowers sitting side by side in a 40 foot long canoe, with a helm to steer and a drummer sitting up high in front, beating out the rhythm. The boats are fitted with a colourful dragon's head and are a truly impressive sight at speed.
Steve Markham, one of the organisers, said: "Everything is ready for another bumper day. Fingers crossed the weather will be dry and sunny, but come what may there will be lots going on in the docks to keep young and old entertained! Thirty local teams will be competing, with races every 10 minutes or so, beginning at 10am and running through until roughly 5.30pm. In between, we've arranged a funfair, lots of stalls, face painters, and musical entertainers so there's sure to be something for all the family! Everyone is welcome, and, don't forget, entrance is absolutely free for all spectators."
All funds raised will go towards supporting worthy causes, both at home and abroad, selected by the Rotary Club of Gloucester Severn. The main charity chosen this year is the James Hopkins Trust.
This year's event will be the 21st annual Dragonboat Regatta at the docks.
