A Tewkesbury man in his sixties has been arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a cyclist by dangerous driving following a collision in Forthampton, near Tewkesbury, last week.
The cyclist, understood to be a Gloucester building contractor in his fifties, died in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, on Tuesday this week - six days after the collision.
A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson said today (July 29) "Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision and yesterday (Wednesday 28 July) arrested a man in his 60s from the Tewkesbury area on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
"The collision between the cyclist and a black Volkswagen Golf is believed to have happened between 5.30pm and 5.45pm on Wednesday 21 July.
"Emergency services attended the scene on an unclassified road close to Bishop's Walk, between the village of Forthampton and the main A438 between Tewkesbury and Malvern.
"The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was taken to Southmead Hospital via air ambulance, where he died on Tuesday (27 July).
"Investigating officers want to hear from anyone who saw the collision or anything prior to the collision."
The spokesperson said the police are interested in speaking to a group of motorcyclists believed to have been in the area around the time of the collision. One is described as riding a sports bike with bright green fairing on the front.
"They may have valuable information about the collision, the cyclist or the car involved and officers are asking them to come forward," said the spokesperson.
"Any witnesses to the incident who have not yet spoken to officers are asked to call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 quoting incident 473 of 21 July."
Additionally anyone with dashcam footage in the area at the time is asked to contact police online here: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/soh/seen-or-heard/.
