Bedding firm wins £150,000 investment for growth

A Tetbury-based luxury bedding brand has secured £150,000 of investment after being crowned winners of the national 'Start-Up Series' competition.

Bedfolk was set up in 2018 by husband and wife Nick and Jo James when, furnishing their home, they decided the bedding market was characterised by poor value for money, an outdated and uninspiring shopping experience, and a lack of brand loyalty.

With backgrounds in interior design and business development the pair set about creating a business that confronted these shortcomings head on.

After touring textile mills on their honeymoon, Nick, 30, and Jo, 32, teamed up with a third generation family run operation in Northern Portugal to develop an exclusive range of premium quality cotton bedding which they sell directly to customers through their online shop - bedfolk.com.

Mr James said: "Good bedding is such a worthwhile investment considering the amount of time we spend in it, but it's a product category riddled with over complexity and confusion - which doesn't instill confidence with consumers.

"Our proposition is simple - to offer high quality bed linen, which is made responsibly, at an accessible price. Hundreds of five-star reviews shows that our customers are delighted with that approach, and we're excited to build on our recent success and to see even more people enjoying better sleep in Bedfolk sheets"

The brand also sells to interior designers, boutique hotels, and guest houses, including the recently opened Bibury Farm Barns - a luxury getaway near to Bibury.

The investment follows a successful summer for the business - with monthly revenues trebling since they secured their first tranche of funding in April of this year, whilst the founder's have also been recognised directly with the duo recently announced as finalists in the South West Family Business Of The Year category of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

The £150,000 investment has been made by Worth Capital - an angel investment network based in London - which runs the national 'Start-Up Series' competition to identify investment opportunities.

The pair plan to use the funding to expand their product range, build their team and continue building awareness of the Bedfolk brand nationwide.
