Tesco could cut 15,000 jobs

The UK's biggest supermarket is trying to save £1.5bn - and thousands of jobs could go.

Although Tesco is yet to confirm its plans, it's thought as many as 15,000 jobs could be lost, as reported by the BBC.

More than 10,000 jobs have already been cut at Tesco since chief executive, Dave Lewis, took over in 2014.

It's thought the retailer triggered a review of jobs after a particularly difficult Christmas trading period. Cuts are likely to affect the majority of Tesco's 732 larger stores and put some of its meat, fish and delicatessen counters at risk.

Details of the cuts are likely to be announced this week. Tesco said its priority will be to support staff, while Tesco workers' main union, Usdaw called for an urgent meeting with the supermarket to clarify the situation.

Meanwhile, smaller rival, Iceland is celebrating being named the highest-rated supermarket for customer satisfaction in the UK Customer Satisfaction Index for the second time running.
