Teenager on trial for murder

A teenager has gone on trial today (October 11) accused of murdering a 17 year old youth at a sports ground in Cam, near Dursley, Glos, earlier this year.

A jury of seven men and five women was told at Gloucester Crown Court that the 16-year-old defendant, wearing an open neck shirt and dark suit, was 15 at the time of the alleged murder of Joshua Hall, who died on Saturday, April 17th 2021 following an incident at the sports ground the day before.

The judge, Mr Justice Chamberlain, told the jury that legal discussions were needed before the case could formally be opened and he reminded the media that the defendant's identity cannot be reported because of his age.

The teenager, who sat next to his mother in the dock, denies murdering Joshua Hall on April 17, 2020.

The trial continues tomorrow (October 12) and is expected to last two weeks.
