Teenager charged with attempted murder

The incident took place on Tuesday evening (September 7).

A teenage boy has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a serious assault of another teenage boy in Cheltenham.

Three teenagers from the Cheltenham area have been arrested in connection with the incident which happened on Tuesday evening (September 7). It is alleged a teenage boy was assaulted with a bottle in Cheltenham Minster churchyard off Cheltenham High Street which left the victim with serious injuries.

A 15-year-old boy has since been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident and appeared in court Friday morning (September 10). He was remanded and is next due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Monday 13 September. He cannot be named for legal reasons.

A 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy who were also arrested in connection with the incident have since been released on bail until the beginning of October.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital and continues to recover.

Detective Inspector Damian Davies said: "Our officers are continuing their investigations and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information surrounding the circumstances to please get in touch.

"We would urge anyone who has any information, no matter how small, to contact us - this can be done anonymously by contacting independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers."
