Teenage boy died after falling from building in Stroud

A teenage boy died after falling from a building in Stroud on Friday (June 18).

Police were called to the disused Tricorn House in Westward Road shortly after 5.50pm with a report a boy had been discovered at the rear of the building.

Emergency services attended and the 15-year-old was found to have suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and at this time there is no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved.

The boy's family is being supported by officers and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Smith said: "This was a truly traumatic incident and our thoughts are with the boy's family and friends at this extremely upsetting time.

"There were a number of people at the scene yesterday and what has happened will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the local community and beyond and our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this."

Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police is asked to call 101 quoting incident 444 of 18 June.

Following the tragic incident at Tricorn House, council officers contacted the owners of the building with an urgent request to secure the building. The owners have agreed and all access points will be blocked off by officers today.

"The Council does not own Tricorn House, so has limited statutory powers but we feel the sense of loss and anger in our community, and we want to help stop anything like this from happening again, said Council Leader Doina Cornell. "On behalf of all councillors and council officers, we send our deepest condolences to the family of the young man who died, and the community of which he was such a big part."

SDC Neighbourhood Wardens are stepping up patrols in the area, working alongside officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary.

As local people will know, the council has granted planning permission for several schemes for the site although none have progressed. In recent months, the council has been working with Siobhan Baillie MP to liaise with the owners on progressing the site's redevelopment.

Stroud District Council will continue to assist the police with their ongoing investigation where required.
