Teen on trial for attempted murder denies charge of deliberately wounding the victim

A 17-year-old Gloucester youth arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the stabbing of another boy of the same age in the city on Sunday, April 10, appeared in court on Tuesday (April 19) has denied a charge of deliberately wounding the victim.
At a youth court hearing before Cheltenham Magistrates Court, the teenager was told he faces a charge of maliciously causing grievous bodily harm with intent in St Ann Way, Gloucester.
The youth admitted possession of a bladed article, a knife, at High Orchard Bridge, Gloucester, and being in possession of a knife.
The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, was wearing a dark suit and tie and was accompanied at the court by his mother and representatives from social services.
The prosecutor Matthew McCabe explained to District Judge Nicholas Wattam that not all the paperwork surrounding this case had been completed since the last hearing, a week ago.
Miguel Blanco, defending, stated that once these documents had been received he would be able to complete all the relevant forms.
A pre-trial hearing was arranged for May 5, at which the young defendant was excused attending the court.
District Judge Wattam told that the youth that he would again be remanded into the care of the local authority and advised him to work the relevant organisations and to comply with his court conditions which includes not entering Gloucester, except for court hearings and consultation with his lawyers.
A provisional trial date of June 7 was set.
