Successful Christmas for Dunelm driven by online sales
17th January 2018
Dunelm has reported like-for-like sales growth in its second quarter, including the Christmas period, driven by a huge rise in online sales.
In its update for the 13 weeks to 30th December, the homeware retailer said total second quarter like-for-like sales increased 3.4 per cent to £255 million, boosted by a 30.5 per cent leap in online sales to £26.2 million, as reported by Retail Gazette.
Dunelm, which has stores in Gloucester and Cheltenham, reported a small rise in sales in its stores of 1.1 per cent to £228.8 million, with its overall company revenue rising 13.6 per cent to £297.5 million.
The retailer said its margins were hit by focusing on growing its online offerings to attract new customers. But Dunelm expects to see a margin improvement in its second half.
The company has 169 stores, and opened five in the last quarter.
Punchline says: We're not surprised to see these results. Dunelm is a company that gets it right - good products, good value, good quality and good service - which is exactly what is needed to thrive in these tough trading times.
