Stroud restaurant goes up for sale

A restaurant in the heart of Stroud's bustling Farmers' Market is up for sale, its owners having decided to focus on other aspects of their catering business from alternative premises.

Established ten years ago, Birch, at 6 Union Street, employed six staff and originally ran a Wednesday-Saturday timetable that generated a turnover of £7,500 a week. Post-Covid, owners Wes and Rosie Birch streamlined their offer to coffee and cake during the farmers' market Saturday hours.

The 2,400 sq ft business  is available, with fixtures, fittings and stock for a yearly leasehold of £20,000 (VAT exempt) and has no living accommodation, but two spacious upstairs rooms. In all, it has 55-plus covers, as well as a large kitchen and walk-in chiller room.

Rosie Birch, co-owner said: "Unfortunately, we're now too busy with events to consider reopening the restaurant. It's in a great location with a fair value rent.

"There was huge scope to do more but we also operated a catering business from the location and were unable to do more."

Ideal handover or exchange would be September 1st, she added.

Wes is also currently celebrating two years of trading as the landlord of the Ship Inn in nearby Brimscombe.
