Striking mural spells new beginning for Gloucester's oldest welding company
25th August 2017
Gloucester's oldest established welding company has also become its most forward thinking, since it was taken over by its current owner two years ago.
Dareth Daley is from a sales and marketing background and was looking for a new challenge, when Merbro's previous owner said he was planning to retire.
Dareth said: "I saw an opportunity to put my stamp on the business.
"This is a very traditional industry, in which companies look after their customers, but tend to not expand the business much. I've moved from sales and marketing into an industry that doesn't promote itself.
"Merbro was well established in terms of time (it was established in 1964), but it didn't have a strong presence in the marketplace. It's been great to bring new ideas into the business."
After moving to a unit two doors down, one of the first things Dareth did was to invest in a striking mural facing Cole Avenue. The mural was enough to attract passing trade to Merbro.
As a welding and fabrication company specialising in bespoke gates and railings, the company also invested in some new gates for its premises.
Alongside the marketing, Dareth has invested in new machinery and processes and CE Marking. The company has also become more customer-focused.
"We show a genuine interest in our customers and their needs. People recognise that and want to buy from us."
The company has come a long way in two years, but is now looking to the future and new product ranges for the home, so it can continue to grow for many years to come.
