Store closed after war time bomb uncovered

A Gloucester superstore was evacuated this afternoon after a suspected unexploded Second World War bomb was found nearby.

Sainsbury's store and car park were closed in St Ann's Way after the shock discovery.

Police cordoned off the area where the bomb was found. It was thought to be on the major homes development site between St Ann's Way and the Sharpness and Gloucester Canal.

A Royal Logistics Corps Bomb Disposal team was called to the site and it is believed the bomb was safely removed.

Last night the cordon was lifted and the Sainsbury's store re-opened.
