Stagecoach West's Kieran wins champion accolade

An employee from Gloucester-based  Stagecoach West was among the winners at the annual Stagecoach Group Champions Awards.

Stagecoach West's Kieran Bolton, was awarded the bronze Innovation Champion award.

The awards - now in their eighth year - recognise excellence over six areas including safety, health, community, customer service, environment and innovation.

Special Bravery Awards were also presented this year to employees who were caught up in the terrorist attacks in London and Manchester earlier this year.

Winners at the event represented Stagecoach Group's bus and rail businesses in the UK and North America. All received a trophy, cash prize and a two night stay in London incorporating the award ceremony.

Kieran has used his previous work experience of 10 years in the army and 25 years as a police officer in Gloucestershire, as well as his own passion for training, to reinvigorate local Stagecoach West training courses.

He has gained the respect of managers, drivers and engineers for his interesting, stimulating and dynamic course delivery, with staff inspired to put his guidance into practice.

Kieran has transformed the training room area into a mock bus and introduced several scenarios for the driver to manage at once. He then links the role play to the company's conditions of travel, drivers' handbook and other policies.

Kieran has developed links with SkillZone, the local Fire Brigade Training School in Gloucester, with local school children benefiting from courses on potential dangers while travelling to senior schools on their own by bus.

The event was also attended by TV personality Jessica Wright, who presented winners with their awards. Earlier this year Jessica took part in a campaign to celebrate the style of Stagecoach's bus passengers across the UK.

Stagecoach West Managing Director Rupert Cox said: "I am delighted for Kieran and would like to congratulate him on his award which is thoroughly deserved.

"He makes a real difference to our business and to our customers every day and I would like to thank him, and our many other hard-working staff, for the part they play in delivering high-quality services to our passengers."

More than 180 Stagecoach employees have been presented with Champions Awards over the past eight years.
