Stagecoach teams in charity bake off

Stagecoach, the UK's largest bus and coach operator, have raised over £1,000 for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity.

Depot teams across the UK, including Gloucestershire, brought in delicious treats to sell among peers for the charity.

As part of a recent pledge to support the communities served by Stagecoach, the operator announced Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity amongst four national charities to be supported by its Giving for Good initiative. This initiative supports ongoing commitments of Stagecoach to donate 0.5% of profits each year to charitable causes.

In the spirit of Roald Dahl, staff members in the Midlands took inspiration from the author, with book-shaped cakes and cupcakes including one inspired by Bruce Bogtrotter's cake from Matilda. These helped to add over £227 to the operator's overall total.

Over at Stagecoach West, six local depots pitched in to raise £195. Alongside their sweet treats, the West teams also donated to wear their England shirt in support of the Women's team during the World Cup Final.

Fundraising for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity supports Stagecoach's strategy to create improvements and developments for local communities. Events such as this are encouraged to help raise awareness of the charities both internally and externally to support them in the work they do.

The money raised will go towards the charity's efforts to provide specialist nurses and support over 32,000 seriously ill children. Working in partnership with the NHS, the charity focuses on complex, lifelong conditions that are under-funded and under-resourced.

Harriet Hughes-Payne, chair charity committee and marketing director, said: "We are extremely proud of our teams' fundraising efforts to support the vital work of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity.

"Our Giving for Good committee was formed to further our contributions to the communities we serve and it is encouraging to see such commitment to our charity activities."
