VIDEO: Developer begins promotion of near million sq ft business park creating 1,250 jobs
By Andrew Merrell | 29th November 2018
The developer behind the 60-acre near one million square foot business park off the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire has begun promoting the scheme with video.
When Punchline broke the story of St Modwen's plans earlier this month that Stroud District Council had given the go-ahead for the plans for the site just off junction 12 it drew a lot of comments.
Most of those who spoke out concentrated not on the 1,250 jobs we are told the site will create alongside the new business space, but the already strained motorway junction.
Gloucestershire's motorway junctions are, as we also highlighted in the article, thought by many to be the key to unlocking the county's economic potential. They are no longer the elephant in the room.

Certainly that is what GFirst LEP think. We covered this in an article the following day when the local enterprise partnership's boss, David Owen, joined the debate over the county's M5 arteries.
"We are working really hard with the county council and (Stroud) district council to push Highways England to upgrade the whole of the M5 infrastructure - making Junction 10 both ways, upgrading junction nine, 11 and 13 and also junction 14," said Mr Owen.
"We have a £250 million bid in to Highways England. It is really important. We know there are challenges, but there are also great opportunities."

Punchline reported the comments along with news of developer Robert Hitchins' plans for six acres of business park land nears development close to the M5 in Gloucestershire close to Junction 13.
Thousands viewed the initial story through Linkedin with comments all focusing on the junctions.
Matthew England, a central and fleet evaluator for Independent Nuclear Assurance, said: "Great that there's more investment in the area but I think someone needs to look at the infrastructure first.
"The M5 struggles with traffic volumes already, especially during peak times and specifically at all junctions. The regular and extensive queueing at junctions in Gloucestershire is a real issue."
Professor Richard Benham, a leading expert on cyber and digital management, said: "There is still a challenge as to why businesses would move here with GCHQ opening in other areas of the country and cyber is a virtual sector after all."
GFirst LEP has pledged £22 million to build a major new cyber-focused business park beside GCHQ, close to junction 11 on a 45-hectare site expected to deliver in excess of 7,000 jobs.
It then emerged that some of those funds will be spent on road infrastructure, including increasing the lanes on Arle Court and Benhall roundabout as well as a creating a direct link between the west of Cheltenham and the M5 Junction 10. And there we were back with the issue of the motorway junctions again.
Both the county council and GFirst LEP who are driving the scheme will meet to discuss it next month.
