Special Cathedral service to mark start of Organ Donation Week

Gloucester Cathedral is holding a special service to mark the start of Organ Donation Week next Monday (September 26).

Evensong at 5.30pm will have an organ donation theme with a reading and prayers.

Canon Andrew Braddock, Interim Dean of Gloucester, said: "The Church of England affirms that giving one's self and one's possessions voluntarily for the wellbeing of others is a Christian duty of which organ donation is a striking example."

Dr Mark Haslam, clinical lead for organ donation at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust, commented: "Last year 19 people received an organ transplant from patients who died in Gloucestershire. The generosity of those patients and their families who said 'Yes' to donation will result in many years of improved health for the recipients."

Register your donation decision by visiting NHS Organ Donor Register at www.organdonation.nhs.uk  and share your decision with your family.
