£650,000 investment for Gloucestershire manufacturing firm

A Gloucestershire-based manufacturing firm has secured its long-term future at it's Cam headquarters thanks to a £650,000 investment.

Sundeala Ltd are the UK's largest manufacturer of display and presentation boards, turning over £7.5million per year from their 60-employee operation at Middle Mill, near Cam.

The investment, supported by Barclays will ensure the company secures its home and will also allow it to improve and modernise the production process.

Sundela is the only European manufacturer of 100 per cent recycled fibre board, with each on of its boards manufactured in their Gloucestershire paper mill.

Water is taken from the river Cam and mixed with cellulose fibres and natural mineral pigments before pressing and drying into a robust fibre board.

Sundeala takes waste products such as newspapers, cardboard, tea bags and egg boxes and turns them into display and presentation boards.

Mike Gorham, Managing Director at Sundeala Ltd said "This investment will bring the production process into the 21st century and allow us to develop new market opportunities.

"We are already exploring the possibility of using our reinforced eco-friendly boards in applications as diverse as industrial filtration, fire doors and as an alternative to wood panels in construction.

"When fully developed, these new boards could add up to £3 million per annum to our turnover."

Jason Llewellyn, Barclays Relationship Director said "SMEs are the lifeblood of our economy and we have worked closely with Sundeala to understand the complexity of their business and support their investment plans.

"Barclays is committed to using our industry expertise and specialists to support such propositions, which enable local businesses like Sundeala to compete and win new contracts, securing jobs and delivering real benefits to the local economy."

David Drew MP for Stroud commented, "This is really good news, securing the future of a very good local company that I have been proud to be associated with over so many years.

"I'm glad that this investment now guarantees its future for many years to come."

Mike Gorham added: "As a major employer within the area, this investment demonstrates our commitment to the local community and to our loyal workforce.

"The new technology and improvements to our production process will reduce costs, improve efficiencies and enable us to explore new business opportunities providing a solid platform for future business growth."
