Shurdington Road Cheltenham to close for two weeks
By Andrew Merrell | 19th October 2018
Drivers hoping to leave the end of the Bath Road in Cheltenham and make their way along the Shurdington Road with ease through early November may have a challenge.
The busy A Road and major thoroughfare into the spa town is due for resurfacing work from Thursday, November 1 to Friday, November 16.
The bad news is it will close the road with drivers sent on a potentially six-mile diversion back through Tivoli, past GCHQ and through Up Hatherley, adding at least 20 minutes to an otherwise three-minute trip.
The good news for the many, who generally travel outside of these hours, is those closures are only in place from 7pm until 7am.
And the good news doesn't stop there.
Those who use the thoroughfare to enjoy the town's abundant nightlife and restaurants of a weekend can also rest easy - Saturday and Sunday are excluded from the programme of works.
For those who like to get into the detail of such road resurfacing work, let us do some laying down ourselves for you - in the form of facts: The work will involve resurfacing 11,475m² of road with approximately 1,350 tonnes of material.
Mapping out the diversion for HGVs in words - this is the route...
From south of the closure continue along Up Hatherley Way, Cold Pool Lane, Grovefield Way and Hatherley Lane until you reach the A40 Golden Valley Roundabout. At the first roundabout take the third exit and onto the A40 towards Cheltenham town centre. At the second roundabout take the second exit continuing on the A40 and then follow the road around the Texaco garage island onto the A40 Andover Road in the direction of the A46 Stroud. At the junction with the A46 Bath Road turn right and continue along the A46 in the Stroud direction to the point of the closure.
