Five days of filming starts at Gloucester Cathedral

Visitors to Gloucester Cathedral over the weekend could find themselves on the set of a period drama being filmed at the iconic building.

Not adverse to making an appearance on the big and small screen the Cathedral has had starring roles and bit-parts in the Harry Potter films, Dr Who, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Sherlock.

Now it appears the architectural marvel will be adding its magic to The Spanish Princess, described as a sequel to television series The White Princess, adapted from the novel by Philippa Gregory.

Film crews are believed to be at the city centre site for the next five days.

The new series will follow the early life of Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII's first wife.

It is reported stars could include the likes of Game of Thrones actor Charlotte Hope, Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey), Georgie Henley (Chronicles of Narnia).

Eliot Cowan plays Henry VIII.
