Shopping centre transformation is unveiled

The owners of King's Walk shopping centre in Gloucester have today announced major investment plans.

The Heart FM footbridge bridge in Eastgate Street will be removed, public realm and public spaces created and the entire area given an uplift to make it more attractive and inviting.

At the heart of the scheme the owners of King's Walk Shopping Centre, Reef Estates Ltd will sub divide the former BHS store to provide a class A1 retail unit over ground and first floor along with a new class A1/A3 cafe unit at ground floor and associated outdoor seating area.

Reef provided more details at a public consultation at the former Co-op store in Eastgate Street where the public can pop in and have a look at the designs until 6pm tonight.

The entrances to King's Walk will be transformed and the atrium will get a major facelift. 

Work on the £12 million scheme will start in about four weeks time and carried out in phases starting with external refurbishment in Eastgate Street. It could take up to two years

Reef, who are keen to work closely with existing and future tenants, said they would transform King's Walk into a modernised retail environment with:

*New entrances from Eastgate and King's Square

*Enhanced arrival to the centre

*Removal of the bridge along Eastgate Street

*Improved branding and scheme identity

*New anchor tenants (yet to be announced)

*Refurbished car park

*New public realm and public spaces

*Upgrading of Eastgate Street

*Significant capital investment
