Setback for £20 million transport hub

Arle Court Park and Ride in Cheltenham will be all park and no ride from next week.

The park and ride will stop running from November 27, because Stagecoach is pulling out of providing the service.

But the county council said it has already found a replacement operator.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said: "As we said at the start of this process, we're working to secure the routes Stagecoach have cut. The procurement process has now concluded, and we will make an announcement in due course about the outcome of this."

Back in 2018, Stagecoach West invested £1 million in a fleet of luxury buses for the route.

Arle Court Park and Ride is part of the new £20 million Arle Court Transport Hub, funded by Homes England Housing Infrastructure Fund. The council is currently working to make improvements to the hub, including:

• A new multi-storey car park

• Increasing the capacity and improving facilities for bicycle/ scooter parking, with the opportunity for bicycle/ scooter hire services

• Improving connections to the existing walking and cycling network

• Increase in the number of local bus services and the opportunity for long distance coach travel

• Improving passenger journey experience by providing new facilities on site, such as a covered waiting area, commercial unit, toilets and information board

Construction work on the new multi-storey car park is set to begin imminently and should be completed in early 2024.
