Scoo-B-Doo charity is 40

Scoo-B-Doo is the charity of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital's Neonatal Unit and is 40 this year!

World Prematurity Month is November and World Prematurity Day is November 17th.

All over the world buildings will be lit up in purple to thank all the amazing staff from all the neonatal units helping to care for all the precious babies.

This year Gloucester Cathedral will be lit up for a whole week from Wednesday, November 15th.

The charity is encouraging individuals and businesses to go purple in November for World Prematurity Month and Day to raise funds for Scoo-B-Doo. This can be done by having a dress-down day at work, or making purple cakes, etc.

To round off the month Scoo-B-Doo is holding a Charity Music Event at Warehouse 4 at Gloucester Brewery on Thursday, November 30th, from 7 pm-11.30 pm, in collaboration with The Music Works Gloucestershire who are bringing performers to the event.

Sarah Edgeworth, Scoo-B-Doo committee member said: "Our charity is so important to those families who have had a baby or had a baby early. We were founded by a group of parents and staff in 1983 and are run entirely by a small volunteer, parent-led committee also consisting of neonatal staff."

The charity raises money to buy vital life-saving equipment to give premature and sick babies the best start in life across Gloucestershire. Over 500 babies a year come through the unit.

Any babies who are under a certain number of weeks or require specialist attention have to go to Southmead in Bristol.
