Sales soar at SCS

Sales at furniture retailer ScS were up 21.6 per cent over the last year, to top £310 million.

The retailer, which has stores in Gloucester and Cheltenham, saw sales hit £311 million, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Gross profit was up 23 per cent to £147 million and underlying profits were £18 million, up from just £0.9 million last year.

The company's like-for-like in-store orders were down only 1.5 per cent on 2020 and 6.5 per cent down on 2019, despite its 100 stores being closed for 17 weeks this year, compared with nine weeks last year. Online sales rose 146 per cent to £46.9 million.

SCS paid back £3 million in furlough grants following the reopening of its stores.

The company puts its success down to a flexible business model, which served it well during the pandemic.
