Sales fall flat at John Lewis

Weekly sales at John Lewis Partnership have plateaued, growing by just 0.1 per cent.
For the week ending January 26, Waitrose and John Lewis combined recorded marginal year-on-year weekly sales growth from £198.39 million to £198.58 million, as reported by Retail Gazette.
The company, which has a new John Lewis store in Cheltenham and Waitrose stores in Cirencester, Stroud and Cheltenham, also saw largely flat sales for the full financial year, growing 0.1 per cent year-on-year.
It's John Lewis which has been hit hardest, with weekly sales falling 3.5 per cent year-on-year, while Waitrose weekly sales increased by 2.3 per cent year-on-year.
Sales of electrical goods at John Lewis fell by 7.6 per cent, while sales of home products fell by 7.2 per cent. However, fashion sales were up by five per cent, driven by demand for own-brand fashion.
Waitrose's growth was boosted by continued demand in fresh food, convenience and food-to-go, and free from products.
It's not known how John Lewis in Cheltenham has been performing since its opening last October.
