Sale revealed of a fast-growing food delivery business

A period of sustained growth has led to the sale of a Gloucestershire wholesaler.

The expert deal-maker that is the corporate finance team at Hazlewoods, led by Paul Fussell, has revealed the sale.

Staverton-headquartered Hazlewoods acted for Gloucester-based J&M Provisions Limited which was sold - trade and assets - to Dorset-based Hunts Foodservice for an undisclosed sum.

John Gardiner, the majority shareholder, said: "The team at Hazlewoods worked hard to bring the sale to a successful conclusion and were always on hand to offer advice along the way.

"Hazlewoods support throughout the process was excellent and the team were a pleasure to work with."

Mr Fussell, corporate finance partner, said: "We have a long-standing relationship with J&M and are delighted to have helped the shareholders achieve a successful sale.

"The deal is a good outcome for both parties and we wish the business every success in the future."

It is not known what this means for jobs at this stage.

Hazlewoods acted as lead adviser and Red Kite Law LLP, led by partner Paul James, acted as legal adviser. Red Kite has offices in Stonehouse and Stroud.

Based in Spinnaker Road, Gloucester, J. & M. specialises in the wholesale of food and beverages, distributing across the South West, Midlands and Wales.

The company was established in 1981, servicing mainly butchers and delicatessens and was acquired by the Gardiner family in 1999.

Rapid organic growth saw the product range expand to more than 1,500 lines, with the customer base diversifying to include hotels, restaurants, cafés, golf clubs, leisure centres, educational establishments and many more.

According to Hazlewoods the food and drink industry is thriving in the UK and notably in the South West, with wholesaling GVA increasing by 9.4 per cent in 2016, as compared to manufacturing which increased by 3.5 per cent, according to the Office for National Statistics.
