New Gloucester store could create 40 jobs

Developers proposing a new Lidl supermarket in Gloucester which could create 40 jobs have announced dates for the start of a public consultation.
Gloucestershire-headquartered Robert Hitchins will begin the listening exercise from January 8, which would see a new store built at Kingsway.
The business is hoping to bring the supermarket to a vacant 2.7-acre brownfield site on the corner of Naas Lane and Newhaven Road, Quedgeley, next to Avionics House.
The multi-million-pound investment would see the construction of what is being called "a sustainable store with a net sales area of 1,325sq m" needing 140 parking spaces.
Glen Stidever, Lidl UK's regional head of property, said: "We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a Lidl in Kingsway and serving our fresh, quality and incredibly good-value produce which shoppers across the country have come to love.
"We look forward to welcoming anyone along to the public consultation day and showcasing our plans whilst answering any questions."
Michael Plimmer, Robert Hitchins' senior development manager, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Lidl on this exciting new store proposal which we feel will add to the choice and range of facilities in easy reach of the growing population at Kingsway."
The supermarket will include features such as an in-store bakery, a customer toilet and dual-packing facilities.
The proposed supermarket in Kingsway will add to Lidl's portfolio of 720 stores in the UK. It will also form part of its plans to open up to 50 new stores a year.
Kingsway has emerged on the site of the former 340-acre RAF Quedgeley. The original masterplan included 3,300 homes, a 40-acre employment site, community and leisure facilities, retail, sports area and primary school.
The exhibition to seek local feedback will be held on January 8 at the Kingsway Community Centre, Thatcham Avenue, Quedgeley from 2.30pm until 7.30pm.
