Warning: Roadworks planned for ‘major’ routes into Cotswold town

Drivers are being warned of roadworks planned for a major thoroughfare into the Gloucestershire market town of Tetbury in November.

The A4135 Charlton Road and Hookshouse Lane in the south Gloucestershire town will be resurfaced as part of the county council's £150m investment into Gloucestershire's roads.

Both are said to have "reached the end of their life expectancy" and require resurfacing.

HGV drivers and those whose livelihoods depend on them in some way should take.

"It is advised that any HGV access takes place before the closure at 9.30am or after 3.30pm for the duration of the works," the council advised.

"There is no suitable diversion route available from either direction for HGV vehicles wishing to access the centre of Tetbury or the Cotswold Airport via the A433 due to the 18.5t weight limit through Tetbury and the 3.9m height restriction at the railway bridge on the A433 near Kemble."

Hookshouse Lane will be resurfaced from Monday, November 12, to Monday, November 26, between 7am - 7pm (excluding weekends).

Highways crews will complete resurfacing across a total of 11,712m² of road with approximately 1,378 tonnes of material.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "I would like to thank road users and residents in advance for their cooperation while this essential work is carried out."

For road users other than HGV drivers this is the diversion. At the junction with the A4135 follow the A46 towards Nailsworth. Take a right at the junction with the B4014 Avening Road, following the road into Avening and then onto the B4014 Tetbury Hill.

Continue along the B4014 towards Tetbury and at the junction with the A433 take a left and then an immediate right onto the A4135 to reach the point of the closure. The diversion is the same in reverse.
