Following feedback from residents, the county council will be resurfacing parts of the B4228 in Coleford throughout August in two phases.

Gloucestershire County Council say that the road surface has come to the end of its life on the B4228 between Coleford Town Centre and the junction with the A4136 (Robin Hood junction).

The stretch will be resurfaced during part of the day from Tuesday 4th August to Thursday 3rd September.

Work will be done in two phases avoiding peak travel times to minimise inconvenience to local residents and businesses, and the road will only close between 9:30am and 3:30pm each day, Monday to Friday. The road will be open at weekends and the bank holiday.

Phase 1 of the work will be between Pyart Court Shopping Centre B4228 (Old Station Road) to just above Sparrow Hill B4228 (Staunton Road). Phase 2 of the work will be from just above Sparrow Hill B4228 (Staunton Road) near to Rushmere Camp Site.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "Proper resurfacing is the only way we will win the battle against potholes, which is why three years ago we made a commitment to invest £150million into your highways. The B4228 is starting to deteriorate, and we need to take action to fix it while making sure residents and business don't experience too much disruption.

"I appreciate that road closures cause inconvenience to local residents and businesses, which is why the road will stay open during peak hours and weekends. I have written to residents personally to explain what will be happening, and I thank them for their feedback so far."

In the letter to residents, Cllr Smith reassured the community that crews work closely with emergency control rooms to make sure they know exactly where road works are taking place, and they will always stop work to allow blue light vehicles through. The highways team also work closely with care providers to support carers who need to make visits and provide care to people.

A signed diversion will be in place, and locals are encouraged to take care if they know an alternative route.
