Resurfacing work underway at Stroud car park

A Stroud town centre car park will remain open while resurfacing work is carried out on the top two levels during the next six weeks.

Resurfacing work is underway at the Brunel Mall car park in Stroud

Stroud District Council are replacing the ageing surfaces on levels 5 and 5a of the Brunel Mall car park in London Road.

The last batch of resurfacing work was done in 2002 and with the two levels open to the elements since, they were beginning to show signs of wear and tear.

The work, which will see the council invest £86,000 in new smoother surface will mean 70 spaces will be closed from today for around six weeks.

A total of 67 long-stay spaces will remain open on levels 1a and 1b with around 200 short-stay spaces still available in the remaining areas of the car park.

A small number of spaces in the neighbouring London Road car park will be closed to allow for resurfacing contractor's equipment to be stored.

"The surface has served us well but it is past its best and needs replacing," said Community Services and Leisure Committee Chair Mattie Ross.

"We are aiming for the work to be completed well within the six weeks, and reopen as soon as possible."
