A Gloucester restaurant has won the Restaurant of the Year (South West category) at the Food Awards England 2018.

Greek on the Docks at Gloucester Docks walked away with the honours at the Food Awards in Manchester.

After opening in 2016 - an independent alongside the eclectic national chain offering at nearby Gloucester Quays - the business has gone from strength to strength with a strong local following both in the city and beyond.

"It is really good. I never expected this to happen. It is one of those things - you get invited and you go, but to win is amazing really," said Yiannis Karayiannis, who started the restaurant with his brother Georgios and Georgios' wife Athina Kalaitzi.

"It makes you feel like all your hard work is worth it somehow."

The business is the culmination of the trio's years of experience running bars and restaurants in their native Greece, Germany and now Gloucester.
