100 homes for Kingsholm to go before planners

Plans to build 100 homes on a certain sports field in Kingsholm are due to go before planners this week - with a recommendation to grant permission.

Rugby fans need fear not, the site is not the hallowed turf on which Gloucester Rugby plays but the former civil service sports ground off Estcourt Road and abutting Denmark Road.

The saga of whether or when owners Redrow Homes would build on the green space has been keeping residents guessing since it was sold to the developer in 2011 for £10,000.

For their part residents have fiercely opposed the current plans and there was a minor victory when at the tail end of last year plans for 89 homes on the site were unanimously rejected.

Highways issues and a loss of green space were the deciding factors.

Next week new plans, this time for 100 homes, are due to come before the city council's planning committee with officers recommending approval.

Residents have also raised fears about potential pressure on schools and concerns over increased traffic.

The council's planning committee is due to consider the application on Tuesday, January 8.
