In pictures: Record turnout as business do battle in Hazlewoods Charity Quiz

A record turnout at the Hazlewoods charity quiz saw £3,000 raised for charity.

A half-century of teams from businesses around Gloucestershire descended on Pittville Pump Rooms on Thursday night to be put to the test - and raise money for Maggie's.

Maggie's are based on College Baths Road and offer support to cancer patients, their families and friends.

The evening was kicked-off with an emotional insight into the charity from Anna Mason, the centre fundraising manager for the Cheltenham branch.

She told a story of a woman called Emma, who recently lost her battle with cancer and read out a letter praising the centre that she had penned praising the centre before passing away.

Then Hazlewoods partner Martin Howard took over as quizmaster, delivering the questions for 10 rounds of teasers, which were punctuated by two picture rounds.

At the end of the night a team from Charles Russell Speechlys' base on Lypiatt Road in Cheltenham took the honours with a staggering 197 points out of 240.

A quartet from Davies and Partners Solicitors in Gloucester took second place, just a point ahead of the team from Punchline - proving our Cummings County Quiz performance was no fluke.

Howard, who penned the questions and compered the evening said he was delighted with the turnout and support from the local business community.

"We had a record turnout this year, with 50 teams entering, which was fantastic to see," he said.

"There was a great mix of old faces, who have supported our quiz for many years, and new teams who now know the standard they need to aspire to!

"Together with the raffle and silent auction that took place on the night, this helped us raise around £3,000 for our chosen charity, Maggie's.

"It was a really enjoyable evening and the feedback from teams has been very positive, so thanks to all who contributed to making it such a successful evening."
