Record Christmas for wine retailer

Majestic Wine had its biggest ever festive trading period.

The wine specialist, which has stores in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Cirencester and Stow-on-the-Wold, saw sales increase by 1.9% in the six weeks to December 30, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Majestic said its performance, which beat the previous festive sales record set in 2023, was boosted by the opening of seven new stores last year and its growing specialist on-trade supply business, Majestic Commercial.

The retailer served more than 70,000 new customers in its stores over the festive period, as it reached its biggest ever market share.

And its on-trade teams supplied nearly 800 new restaurants, bars and hospitality venues.

Majestic had its biggest ever trading day on December 23, immediately followed by its best ever Christmas Eve.

Sales of champagne over the period were up 4.7% and fine wine sales rose by 4%, while fortified wine sales increased by 15%.
