Rebrand of one of county’s biggest retail brands revealed

A remodelling of one of the county's biggest department stores looks set to go ahead.

For years the king-pin at the heart of Gloucester city centre's retail offering Debenhams is in the queue for the company's "store modernisation" programme.

Announced as the "next phase" of its transformation a new brand look "aims to reflect and communicate the vast amount of changes taking place within the business".

Visitors to Debenhams' website will notice the transformation first, and those who want to see what's eventually coming to Gloucester will need to visit its new flagship Watford store, or Reading, Cambridge, Leicester and Sheffield's Meadowhall.

Sergio Bucher, chief executive officer, said: "The Debenhams Redesigned strategy sets out to reinvent the shopping experience for customers.

"Whilst we have made real improvements to our stores and continue to improve our product offering we also want to signify overtly to customers that Debenhams is changing and give them more reasons to come in store - our new brand identity is a way of signalling the change."

If the refits already carried out are anything to go by customers in Gloucester should expect not just the new "modern, friendlier logo" with "custom made, distinctive typeface" but much more.

This could include "the installation of new fixturing which will see fashion merchandised by genre as well as showrooms highlighting 'new in this week.' A new lingerie concept provides a premium setting with improved navigation to hero bra styles and a new jewellery and watch area refreshes the accessories offer".

Other possible changed include a beauty hall redesign and a new contemporary menu in its café.

Debenhams describes itself as a leading international, department store destination with a proud British heritage which trades out of around 250 stores across 25 countries and is available online in more than 60 countries.

A date has not yet been set for a revamp of the Gloucester store.
