Real ale fans aghast at CAMRA's new logo

The Campaign for Real Ale has ditched its traditional tankard from its logo.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has ditched its traditional tankard from its logo, sparking fury from some real ale fans.

CAMRA has introduced the new logo in a bid to appeal to younger drinkers. The new branding, which reportedly cost £24,000, features a silhouette of a modern pint glass.

But some people think it makes it look like a music or wifi logo.

The organisation also announced it would no longer promote itself as 'The Campaign for Real Ale' but would instead boast it has been "campaigning for pubs, pints and people since 1971", according to the Sun newspaper.

Real ale fans have taken to Facebook to comment on the new logo. The Ale House said: "Looks like a vinyl record logo, WiFi related thing or radar camera app logo at first sight depending on which one you see first. Old logo definitely."

Jenny Davis said: "Definitely the old logo as it gives you a clue what it is related to, whereas the new one looks like a music logo."

Rob Wiles said: "The new logo doesn't shout "Beer" whereas the old is pretty clearly a tankard."

Kevin Quinn commented: "Old logo 100%. A logo needs to have a link to what it represents, something the new one doesn't. If you didn't know what CAMRA is you wouldn't have a clue."

However, Kim Langford prefers the new logo, commenting: "I personally think the old logo looks dated and amateurish now, a little too literal too and in need of modernisation. Logos don't have to literally represent a brand. CAMRA needs to embrace change and retain a standing in the modern world and I think this new identity fits well."

CAMRA says it wants to attract under-30s who often prefer lager or craft beers to traditional ales.
