Raiders hit Five Valleys business

Thousands of pounds worth of goods were stolen in a raid on a retail business in Stroud district.

Burglars smashed their way into the shop in Brimscombe and made off with cigarettes and alcohol including vodka and whisky.

"We were alerted by a member of the public that the window had been smashed. The report came in at about 2.50am on August 31," said a spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Constabulary.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the burglary to the London Road-based Brimscombe Newsagents.

It is believed two people were involved and that the break in took place at 1.30am.

Police confirmed no other similar crimes had taken place in the area.

Anyone who may have information or seen someone acting suspiciously in the area should call the police on 101 and quote incident number 34 of August 31.
