Question mark hangs over jobs at mobile phone stores

Staff in Gloucestershire will not find the message from their new boss at Carphone Warehouse easy listening.

Chief executive Alex Baldock has announced nearly 100 stores will close this year.

The profits warning also issued by Mr Baldrock explains the dramatic announcement.

Changing consumer habits are said to be behind Dixons Carphone's plans to close 92 Carphone Warehouse standalone stores.

The business has stores across Gloucestershire in the likes of Eastgate Street, Westgate Street, Eastern Avenue, in Gloucester, the High Street, Tewkesbury Road and Cheltenham Retail Park, Grovefield Way in Cheltenham, Threadneedle Street, Stroud and Cricklade Street, Cirencester,

With the City warned profits would fall below forecasts this year share prices fell 20 per cent. The past year has already seen a 30 per cent fall in value.

The City has been expecting a valuation in the region of £387 million but that now looks like it will be closer to £300 million.
