PureGym has ambitious plans to extend its power

PureGym plans to more than double its clubs by 2030.

The fitness firm which already has sites in Quedgeley, Gloucester Retail Park and Cirencester wants to build an empire of 1,000 sites across the world.

It has 301 UK clubs, 24 of which were opened last year.

It plans to reach up to 700-900 sites between 2026 and 2028.

And in Switzerland it wants to go from 39 to 200 sites by 2028.

The low-cost gym chain also wants to accelerate the roll out of franchise operations in new international locations including Japan, South East Asia, China, India and North Africa.

A spokesperson told Health Club Management: "Our growth strategy will consolidate and exploit our position as one of the large-scale 'mega players' in the global, value fitness landscape."

Pure Gym announced its grand plans alongside its full-year 2021 financial results, which showed that total group revenue during 2021 reached £308million, a 14 per cent increase on the pandemic-disrupted 2020.
