Punchline business news website’s readership hits record high

Gloucestershire's business news website Punchline - yes, this very website - can now lay claim to being the best-read business news website in the county.

The website hosts news and views the Punchline-Gloucester.com team of journalists think are relevant to the county's thriving business community, and its formula is drawing a growing audience.

Readership has hit 120,000 unique visitors a month with nearly one million pages viewed over the same period and the Punchline Daily newsletter has 7,000-plus subscribers.

Its audience is reflected in the 50,000 followers who also keep up with the conversations on social media, sharing of news and views - mainly via Twitter and Linked in, but also through Facebook.

"We have been growing in popularity for some time now, but just not shouted about it. The bi-monthly county business magazine continues to go from strength-to-strength, but we have worked hard to serve the business community on-line," said Mark Owen, editor of Punchline-Gloucester.com.

"Our aim is simple - to deliver the news and views the business community wants. We are here to report on the highs and lows, the deals, the movers and shakers and the developments.

"Ultimately we like to think we champion business in Gloucestershire like no one else.

"Although our content also is Gloucestershire focused we now also draw in a significant audience from outside of the county. Ten per cent of our readership comes from Bristol, for example."

Andrew Merrell, senior reporter for Punchline, said: "I have worked on the biggest business news websites in the region since there was such a thing and in terms of readership figures this website out performs anything I have come across yet.

"Stories on the site get more readers than business stories elsewhere and it is all down to one thing - quality content. There is a greater penetration online than anything I have ever had the pleasure to be involved in.

"Coupled with the bi-monthly magazine - which reaches all of Gloucestershire's major business parks and then some - the reach of Punchline into the county's business community is unmatched."
