Punchline Business and Community Champion: Free Stagecoach bus travel for Gloucestershire NHS staff

A Gloucester-based bus operator has announced today that NHS staff will be able to travel for free on all of its buses in Gloucestershire.

Stagecoach says that it has organised the scheme in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council, to help health staff as they continue their efforts to treat people with coronavirus.

And that's why we are naming the transport firm one of our latest Punchline Business and Community Champions - an initiative backed by the Gloucestershire local enterprise partnership, GFirst LEP, and the Growth Hub, which runs the network of business support centres county-wide.

Rupert Cox, managing director of Stagecoach West said: "We continue to play a crucial role in ensuring that our community's key workers, such as NHS staff, can get into work.

"We have built our revised timetables around the needs of these key workers who are at the front-line in the fight against this virus.

"I'm extremely proud that we are able to help make a difference by offering free bus travel to the NHS workers in Gloucestershire who are doing such an incredible job.

"I would like to thank our team in the West who are pulling together to ensure that we can continue to deliver our services. They are key workers too and I thank them for their continued support and resilience in these challenging times."

Cllr Nigel Moor, cabinet member responsible for public and community transport at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "Our front line NHS workers are doing a fantastic job - supporting them to get to work seems the least we can do.

By continuing to support our bus operators during this difficult time it has been possible to swiftly put this free travel scheme in place for those on the frontline."

The bus company confirmed that the free travel offer is available for any NHS worker travelling to or from work who shows a valid NHS ID to the bus driver.

They said that in addition to enhanced cleaning regimes, they have taken extensive action to protect the safety of its customers and staff with a number of additional measures in place.

Contactless payments are also being encouraged wherever possible and social distancing guidelines are being displayed on buses.
