Punchline Business and Community Champion: Builders donate defibrillators to appeal
By Rob Freeman | 20th April 2020
A leading housebuilder has donated defibrillators from sites across Gloucestershire to help in the fight against coronavirus.
And the gesture by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes has earned them a nomination as one of Punchline's Business and Community Champions.
The defibrillators, worth more than £900 each, are being donated from sites across the county -including in Gloucester and Stonehouse - as part of a nationwide initiative by Barratt Developments.
The company is donating hundreds of defibrillators from its construction sites to St John Ambulance, who have set up a Take the Strain appeal as it bids to ease the pressure on the NHS during the crisis.
Part of the appeal involves sourcing equipment, including 1,000 defibrillators nationwide.
And Barratt, the country's largest house builder, is donating the defibrillators from all its sites with an estimated 400 worth more than £300,000 due to be delivered in the next few days.
Barratt Developments has also donated £100,000 to NHS Charities Together appeal, which supports 250 NHS charities across the UK.
Last week the housebuilder donated personal protective items including thousands of face masks, gloves and hand sanitiser, to NHS hospitals and social care services across the country.
West region managing director Chris Burton said: "We are pleased to be able to donate this equipment where it is urgently needed - to help St John Ambulance, who are on the frontline, supporting the NHS and helping to save lives.
"We are seeing an amazing collective effort by businesses, communities and individuals in the fight against coronavirus and we want to play our part in that."
Barratt Developments closed all of its offices and construction sites two weeks ago.
