Public consultation for new local plan begins today

Forest of Dean District Council invites residents, communities and businesses across the district to have their say on the new local plan strategy, Our Plan, by taking part in a public consultation, beginning today (Monday, July 8).

Cllr Sid Phelps, Cabinet member for Local Plan, said: "We're inviting everyone across the Forest to have their say on Our Plan and help us shape the future for the Forest of Dean.

"We'd like input from all residents, businesses, developers, and local organisations on several key topics that will be used to guide development in the Forest of Dean over the next 20 years, including how we tackle climate change, affordable housing, and how we help our local communities and economy thrive.

"We want this local plan to be different. We want the people of the Forest to feel involved and this consultation is a great opportunity to hear from you all."

The consultation process for the new local plan strategy (the Forest of Dean District Draft Local Plan document) enables residents to provide their thoughts both online, and in person at several community drop-in events across the Forest, dates for which are listed below:

  • Monday, July 15 - Forest of Dean Council Offices, Coleford, 3pm - 7pm
  • Tuesday, July 16 - Newent Memorial Hall, 3pm - 7pm
  • Wednesday, July 24 - Lydney Community Centre, 3pm - 7pm
  • Wednesday, July 31 - Sedbury Village Hall, 3pm - 7pm

Cllr Phelps added: "A new local plan is a requirement by law, but we want to ensure that this local plan really is 'Our Plan'.

"Our Plan sets out how we can protect and enhance the beautiful area in which we live and how we can ensure that development in our area is well thought out and works in the best way for the area.

"That is why this consultation is so important. Our Plan will have a tremendous effect on future generations and by getting involved and having your say, you can help shape that future positively for everyone across the district."

Residents can find out more and provide their thoughts by visiting the Forest of Dean District Council website.
