The irresistible lure of GEMS

Imagine investing millions creating a solution everyone in your market place wants, but no other company can offer - then giving it away for free to your customers.

If you were good before, you have suddenly become an incredibly attractive option. This is what is happening to recruitment finance provider Simplicity. And it is about to go one step further.

Its customers are already enjoying the powerful customer relationship management and workflow software the business has christened GEMS.

Whilst recruitment companies have traditionally used separate front office and back office systems, GEMS brings it all together under one roof.

Savings for recruitment firms, just from using the software, can be considerable. In a market worth $428 billion globally, but where the margins are squeezed (especially in the UK) anything which simplifies and saves money proves increasingly irresistible.

It is this hand which Simplicity began playing a year ago, and which explains in part why it too expects to enjoy some of the growth it is dedicated to delivering for customers. In August it revealed 1,000 users were already using GEMS.

The business has now revealed ambitious plans to disrupt the market by initially offering GEMS for no charge to the marketplace.

David Thornhill, managing director and co-founder of Simplicity, said: "Recruitment technology is constantly evolving and as the recruitment industry itself continues to grow, so does the demand on recruiters to deliver a service that is faster, smarter and more efficient than ever before. This is where GEMS makes a real difference.

"GEMS is much more than just a CRM system. The purpose of the technology is simple - to help busy recruiters save time, become more efficient and reduce costs."

Historically up to 95 per cent of Simplicity's business has come from new start-ups within the recruitment sector, but the significance of its offer and reputation is now attracting established players as well.

"We finished last year on £105million. This year, with one or two big new customers on board we are on target for £130million turnover," said Jonathan Viney, a director for the Forest of Dean business, who oversees the sales acquisition and retention of all partners, the marketing function and key account management.

Plans are to eventually move its platform into other countries, including Australia and the USA.

Simplicity's beginnings go back to 2004, when Mr Thornhill and fellow industry heavyweight Tom Atkinson joined forces.

The vision was simple - to harness their combined experience in the industry and payroll and use technology to revolutionise the recruitment industry's efficiency and profitability.

Together they assembled a team of like-minded recruitment experts and began their quest to develop the first full-service back office and financial solution designed for the specific challenges facing recruiters of both permanent and temporary staff.

It provides recruiters with finance, payroll administration, contractors' payments, credit control and management reporting and enjoys an excellent reputation across a diverse customer base.

To date, Simplicity has provided an estimated near £1 billion in funding, worked with thousands of recruiters and helped deliver both growth and prosperity for both start-ups and established businesses.

Services include 100 per cent finance, payroll, contractors' payments, credit control and reporting.
