Prison redevelopment will transform city skyline

Planners have approved the redevelopment of the former Gloucester Prison into a flats complex.

City councillors have given the go-ahead for the scheme involving 202 apartments.

If all goes well the developers, City&Country, will begin work in 2020.

The scheme will involve the demolition of non-listed prison buildings and the construction of seven new buildings up to six storeys high.

City&Country are specialists at completing schemes involving historic and heritage buildings.

The prison scheme was subject to investigations on the environmental impact it will have.
