Poundland to extend convenience brand

Poundland is set to expand its convenience store format, with two more Poundland Local stores.
The local stores are smaller than the usual Poundland shops and aim to bring convenience to areas without a Poundland, as reported by Retail Gazette.

The retailer, which has stores in Gloucester, Cheltenham, and Tewkesbury, aims to offer customers a carefully selected range of products to cover lunches, planned top-up shopping and urgent last-minute purchases.
The next Poundland Local store to open will be Clapham Junction on July 2 - the first in London. It will be followed later in the summer by the first Poundland Local store in the West Midlands - in Coldfield.
Poundland Local stores employ around 12 staff. They sell items from Poundland's core range, including groceries, household products, snacks and health and beauty. They also stock items tailored to the need of the people who live and work in the particular area.
Poundland said that it wants people to know that convenience shopping shouldn't have to mean compromising on value for money.
The Poundland Local format was launched a year ago, with four stores in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.
