Discount retailer, Poundland, has acquired frozen food specialist Fulton Foods, as it looks to expand its food range.
Poundland, which has stores in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester, Stroud and Tewkesbury, said it has already been working with Fulton for 12 months to develop a chilled and frozen food range, as reported by Retail Gazette.
The partnership means the retailer will be able to offer frozen and chilled food in more than 70 of its stores, with another 40 expected to stock the range by December.
Poundland is committed to investing £25 million into expanding its chilled and frozen food operation over the next two years.
It will now begin to convert some Fulton stores into Poundland stores, and to set up Fulton's Barnsley base as its national frozen distribution centre.
Poundland aims to expand its chilled and frozen offer into a further 150 stores during the 2021-2022 financial year, with the ultimate aim of stocking the range in up to 500 stores in the next two years.
It will create 1,000 new jobs as part of the expansion, while all 800 Fulton staff will join Poundland this month with no changes to their terms and conditions.
