Popular bank branch is to close

A bank branch which is popular with county business people is to shut.

Barclays has announced it is closing its branch in Bristol Road, Gloucester on November 23, 2018.

The branch is convenient for businesses in the Bristol Road area. The nearest alternative branch is in Gloucester city centre in Southgate Street.

Last year Barclays provoked an outcry from business leaders when it closed its Newent branch as part of a plan to axe dozens of outlets. The banks argue that more and people doing banking online.

It is estimated that overall, the bank network in the UK has halved over the past 25 years.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) said: ""At a time of unprecedented uncertainty, the last thing small businesses need is loss of in-person bank branch support. When times are tough, there's no replacement for help from a known and trusted bank branch contact."

In a letter to customers of the branch in Bristol Road, Gloucester, Barclays said: "The decision to close a bank is never an easy one; however, we are finding that customers are increasingly using other ways to do their everyday banking.

"Taking into consideration the alternative ways to bank that are available in the area, we have made the decision to close the branch."

Two weeks before the planned closure, Barclays says it will provide details of the feedback it has received from customers and the local community around the concerns and "additional actions we have taken to help customers."

This will be available online at home.barclays/ukbranchclosures and in the closing branch.
