Police hunt after three robberies at county bookmakers

Do you recognise this man? Police want to speak to him after three robberies took place at bookmakers in Cheltenham and Churchdown.

At two of the robberies staff were threatened with a knife and it is believed the incidents are linked.

The first robbery took place on 28 March at 9pm when a man entered Corals Bookmakers, St John's Avenue, Churchdown. He threatened staff with knife and demanded money. He got away with hundreds of pounds and may have got into a waiting car to make his escape.

He is described as white, about 6' tall and of stocky build. He had a mask covering his face - rather like a makeshift balaclava where holes had been cut into a beanie hat and pulled down over his face. (Incident number 488 of 28 March)

The second incident happened the following day 29 March at Ladbrokes Bookmakers, Devon Avenue, Cheltenham. At around 3.15pm a man pushed his way past staff shouting 'give us your money'. Staff managed to prevent him getting any cash and he left the shop empty handed. He is described as white, in his mid thirties and wearing a dark hoodie and grey jogging bottoms. (Incident number 265 of 29 March)

The third incident took place just before 4pm on 29 March at Betfred, Coronation Square, Cheltenham. A white man of stocky build, wearing a black bomber jacket, jeans and grey, makeshift balaclava type hat, threatened staff with a knife and took money from the till. He left the premises through the rear of the shop into the car park. (Incident number 278 of 29 March)

A police spokesman said: "These incidents are extremely upsetting for all members of staff and we are appealing for assistance from anyone who may be able to identify this man or who has any information that can help us with our enquiries.

"If you see this man or can identify him please don't approach him but call 101, or 999 if appropriate, quoting the above incident numbers. You can also give information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
